LINE presents the latest work by Italian sound artist Vittorio Guindani. Strame is a series of incredibly delicate miniatures formed from his field recordings.

Strame is with no doubt the most dramatic of my recordings.

Conceived as a natural evolution of my previous releases about fragmentation and debris, Strame is composed by field recordings manipulated in an expressionist way instead of an impressionist glance.

Sadly, the news of this Epoch is terrible and this feeling of fear and impotence in front of all this mess deeply influenced my way of thinking and working.

Strame is a collection of ashes, it testify a sense of loss, maybe a surrender and, at the same time, an attempt to react hopefully through the ruins.

For a better experience I suggest to listen to this album at a low volume.

Vittorio Guindani (b. 1969) is interested in silence, soundscape, void, field recordings and small sounds, which he creates with objects, loops and anything endowed with its own dust.

His focus is to create a presence instead of music, a meditative sound on the threshold, in a balance between life and death, wondering about impermanence.

He has collaborated with contemporary dance companies and several artists including video makers, illustrators, choreographers, theatre directors and musicians.

In 2020, Guindani released his debut album Jisei and Materia Breve in 2023, both for 901editions (IT) and Dōgen, a digital release for Unqua (JP) in 2025.

Recently he shared micro live tour with Luigi Turra, Luca Formentini, Giuseppe Ielasi, Fabio Perletta, and Elia Piana.

Strame

  • Strame è il terzo lavoro solista per Vittorio Guindani dopo Jisei e Materia Breve, entrambi su 901 Editions e testimoni di un musicista che lavora con i materiali, il legno, il metallo, l’aria ed il vento, costruendo quadri che acquistano vita pur non lasciandoci la possibilità di leggere presenza umana al proprio interno. In questo caso ad ospitarlo è Line di Richard Chartier, musicista e produttore losangelino che chi segue The New Noise avrà intravisto diverse volte sulle playlist di Loud!.

    Strame è, come si può immaginare, materiale sonoro esile ed analizzabile come corpo unico più che come singolo stelo, dimostrando le capacità ormai innegabili di Vittorio Guindani di costruire un immaginario mentale ed emotivo, in questo caso drammatico. Già, che ad essere comunicato dal musicista tramite questi field-recordings manipolati è “… un senso di perdita, arrendevolezza e, forse, il reagire speranzosamente fra le rovine”

    Con che gioia possiamo quindi apprezzarne le costruzioni ed il tessuto? Come poterci beare di un tormento che ancora non è catarsi ma soltanto bozza e speranza?

    È un loop di pensieri che, come le piccole miniature sonore di Strame, mi attraversa la testa insieme alle note, sfalsando significato, senso e sensazione e lasciandomi in maniera quasi colpevole la bellezza dell’intricato lavoro cha a volte può essere la musica e l’esprimersi attraverso l’arte. Un’arte che non può concedere immedesimazione ma agisce in maniera più fisica e misteriosa, livellando i nostri battiti, i nostri valori ed il nostro respiro ad un viaggio coinvolgente.

    Non sapremo mai quel potrà essere stato il messaggio degli steli interrogati da Vittorio Guindani ma possiamo vivere nello stesso clima che lì ha contornati, studiarne le correnti del vento, ascoltare gli insetti che se ne sono cibati cantando, immaginarne il cambiamento materico e fisico.

    Oltre a quello, in religioso silenzio, preferibilmente in cuffia, possiamo perderci fra i loro suoni, facendoci rimanere incantati da cotanta passione.

  • Strame is the third solo work for Vittorio Guindani after Jisei and Materia Breve, both on 901 Editions and witnesses of a musician who works with materials, wood, metal, air and wind, building paintings that come to life while not leaving us the possibility of reading human presence within. In this case to host it is Line by Richard Chartier, musician and producer from Los Angeles that those who follow The New Noise will have glimpsed several times on the playlists of Loud!.

    Strame is, as you can imagine, slender sound material that can be analyzed as a single body more than as a single stem, demonstrating Vittorio Guindani’s now undeniable ability to build a mental and emotional imaginary, in this case dramatic. Yes, what is communicated by the musician through these manipulated field-recordings is “… a sense of loss, surrender and, perhaps, reacting hopefully among the ruins”.

    With what joy can we appreciate the constructions and the fabric? How can we bear a torment that is not yet catharsis but only draft and hope?

    It is a loop of thoughts that, like the small sound miniatures of Strame, crosses my head along with the notes, offsetting meaning, sense and sensation and leaving me in an almost guilty way the beauty of the intricate work that sometimes music and expression through art can be. An art that cannot grant identification but acts in a more physical and mysterious way, leveling our beats, our values and our breath to an engaging journey.
    We will never know what the message of the stems questioned by Vittorio Guindani may have been but we can live in the same climate that has been around there, study the wind currents, listen to the insects that have eaten with it singing, imagine the material and physical change.

    In addition to that, in religious silence, preferably in headphones, we can get lost among their sounds, making us be enchanted by a long passion.
